Abstract
An auxiliary radial magnetic bearing is introduced into the ordinary magnetic bearing system. The auxiliary bearing only supports the rotor with damping and without stiffness.Dynamic characteristics of the auxiliary bearing system is studied by theoretical and experimental methods in the paper. The analysis shows that the introduction of the auxiliary bearing is helpful to enhance the mode damping of the system, and reduce the vibration of the rotor when it is over the critical speeds.
