Abstract
Objective To compare polyethylene glycol(PEG)and polyethylene glycol(PEG)with elthon in bowel cleansing before colonoscopy in adult patients within those 25 to 70 years old people. Methods Retrospective mathced study, choosing 198 patients among all of those who underwent colonoscopy from March 2007 to August 2007.We investigated the quality of bowl preparation and presence of the next adverse events during bowel preparation.Fever, low digestive bleeding, abdominal pain, perianal pain, nausea, vomiting, thirst, somnolence, agitation, tremor and convulsions. Results One hundred patients prepared with PEG(45 women and 55 men, mean age 47.86±10.72 years)and 98 patients with elthon and PEG(48 women and 50 men, mean age 45.17±9.67 years)were included. There was no relationship between years(t=1.853,P0.05).However,patients in elthon groups showed less side effect than PEG groups(χ2=4.57,P0.05).However,patients in elthon group showed less side effect than PEG group(χ2=4.57,P0.05).There were no severe side effects in both two groups.Patients prepared with PEG group unfinished bowel cleansing more frequently than those with elthon group.Cleanliness achieved with elthon group was significantly better than that obtained with PEG group(χ2=4.47,P0.05).There were no severe side effects in both two groups.Patient prepared with PEG goroup unfinished bowel cleansing more frequently than those with elthon group.Cleanliness achieved with elthon group was significantly better than that obtained with PEG group(χ2=4.114,P0.05).Conclusion Bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy in eothon group was batter than in PEG group.Oral Elthonn with PEG before colonoscopy had less side effects than PEG.
