Abstract
[Purpose]To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its significance.[Methods]The expression of VEGF was examined by immunohistochemistry in 60 cases of NSCLC.[Results]The positive rate of VEGF in NSCLC was 61.67%, it was significantly higher than that in normal lung tissues adjacent to carcinoma(8.00%),P0.01.The VEGF positive expressions were correlated to clinical stage and lymph node metastases. The 1-,3-,4-year survival rates in patients with negative VEGF expression were 86.74%,64.05%,64.05% respectively. In contrast the 1-,3-,4-year survival rates in patients with positive VEGF expression were 85.4%,43.64%, 19.05% respectively. There was significant difference between two groups by Log-Rank analysis?(0.05)?[Conclusion]VEGF plays an important role in the angiogenesis and development of NSCLC,and the detection of VEGF expression may be helpful to predict prognosis of NSCLC.
