Abstract
This paper studied the relationships between the yield,lignin-free yield, viscosity of the pulp, consumption of effective alkali in the cooking liquor and kappa number of the pulp during kraft pulping of eucalyptus. The results indicated that the kappa number of 15—16 is the characteristic kappa number of the pulp in kraft pulping of eucalyptus,in which an ideal pulp yield of 48.5% is expected. The yield and viscosity of the pulp and residual effective alkali decrease significantly when the kappa number of the pulp drops below the value of the characteristic kappa number(the turning point). Therefore, the target kappa number of the pulp in the eucalyptus kraft pulping should not be lower than this turning point.
