SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SELF-EFFICACY IN NURSING UNDERGRADUATES: A CORRELATION STUDY

Abstract

Objective To understand the self-confidence and self-efficacy in nursing undergraduates and investigate the correlation between these two factors.Methods Personal evaluation inventory,PEI and general self-efficacy scale were used to survey 223 nursing undergraduates in a university.Results General mean score of self-confidence was 129.80±13.57,and that of self-efficacy was 24.75±5.06.Self-confidence and self-efficacy were positively correlated with academic performance,appearance,love relationships,social interrelation,conversation,the overall confidence level and state of mind(r=0.167-0.420,P0.001).Conclusion The correlation between self-confidence and self-efficacy in nurse students is relatively high.During the process of their education,an attention of raising their self-confidence should be emphasized so as to boost their self-efficacy.
