Abstract
Objective:To explore the pathogenetic mechanism of middle ear cholesteatoma and to detect the expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1a in middle ear cholesteatoma and normal external ear canal skin.Method:We used immunohistochemistry to examine the expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1a in thirty-two middle ear cholesteatomas and fifteen samples of normal external ear canal skin.Result:The HIF-lα expression was extremely higher in middle ear cholesteatomas than that in normal external ear canal skin(P0.05).Conclusion:The higher expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1a in middlle ear cholesteatoma suggests that Hypoxia-inducible factor-1a plays an important role in the pathogenesy and development of middle ear cholesteatoma, and hypoxia may be an incentive in its pathogenetic mechanism.
