Effects of Yiqi Huoxue therapy on the expression of VEGF in intracerebral hemorrhagic rat brains

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Yiqi Huoxue therapy on VEGF expression in rat brains after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) for exploring molecular biology therapeutic mechanism of ICH.Methods ICH model was made by injecting collagenase type Ⅶ stereotaxically into right globus.Yiqi therapy,Huoxue therapy and Yiqi Huoxue therapy groups were orally administered with Yiqi decoction,Huoxue decoction and Buyang Huanwu decoction respectively to examine the expression of VEGF in rat brains at different time points (1,4,7,14,21,28 d) by Western blot.Results From the 1st day to 28th day,the expression of VEGF could be observed in the four groups besides the sham group. The level of VEGF achieved peak in Yiqi Huoxue therapy group,was earlier than that in the other three groups(P0.01),and the level was higher than other three groups from 7th day to 28th day (P0.01).Conclusions The expression of VEGF is up-regulated in ICH rats’ brain. Yiqi Huoxue therapy could enhance this expression,promote the peak value of VEGF to arrive earlier and delay its reduction to repairing cerebral injury.
