The Interpretation of Conversational Implicature

Abstract

Conversational implicature is one of the basic parts of pragmatics. The theory of conversational implicature. its principles and the role it plays in inferring conversational meanings are introduced in this paper. Besides, the importance of context in the understanding of conversational implicature is discussed, and it is pointed out that the theory of conversational implicature is of great instructive significance in Eng-lish teaching.
