Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective effect and mechinasm of baicalin against the learning and memory capacity of mice with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods Sixty Kunming mice were randomly divided into three groups:control group(n=20),reperfusion group(n=20)and baicalin group(n=20).Water maze of Morris was used to detect the learning and memory capacity, and latent period and swimming locus were recorded.Western blot analysis was used to detect Bax and Bcl-2 protein expression in mice in each group.Resuls From the 4th day after Water maze training, the latent period was shortened and the error times were reduced in mice in Baicalin groups, and had significant difference with those in reperfusion group(P0.01).The protein expression of Bcl-2 and Bax was upregulated and the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio increased in corpus striatum of mice in reperfusion group 4 days after ischemia-reperfusion injury.Baicalin treatment significantly downregulated the protein expression of Bax and reduced Bax/Bcl-2 ratio after ischemia-reperfusion injury, compared with reperfusion group(P0.01).Conclusion Baicalin can effectively improve the learning and memory capability of mice with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, and this may be related with the changes of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio.
