Abstract

[Objective]To explore the improving effect of nerve growth factor (NGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on neural fiber's regeneration after injuring sciatic nerve by clamping compression, and to investigate the protective effect on the denervated sural triceps in rats.[Method] In the experimental group, NGF and bFGF were injected to nerves which were injured by clamping; in the control group, equal amount of saline was injected. Drugs were injected into sural triceps once everyday for a month after this operation. In the 4th, 8th and 12th week, foot analyses were performed respectively. Pathological observation of the spinal cord, sciatic nerve and sural triceps were conducted after applying anesthesia and perfusion to the animal.[Result]The combining application of NGF and bFGF significantly improved the function index of the injured nerve, reduced the denervated muscle's atrophy and increase the nerve fiber's regeneration.[Conclusion]The combining application of NGF and bFGF can significantly improve the repairing and regeneration effect of clamped sciatic nerve and decrease the atrophy of denervated sural triceps.
