Abstract

A new process for preparing high-purity and ultrafine magnesium hydroxide with precipitated magnesium mud was studied. The effects of operation conditions on leaching yield of magnesium ions from precipitated magnesium mud and removal yield of calcium ions from acid leaching solution were investigated. The results indicated that ultrafine magnesium hydroxide powders were prepared by chemical precipitation method with hydrochloric acid leaching solution purified and ammonia as raw materials as well as suitable amount of PEG2000 as dispersant agent. The samples obtained under proper conditions were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and particle size distribution analyzer and determined by the method in HG/T3607-2000.The results showed that the mean particle size of magnesium hydroxide was 89.5nm,with flake shape, fine dispersion, and hexagonal crystalloid configuration. The sample specifications coincided with the standard stipulated in HG/T3607-2000.
