Abstract
Objective To investigate the distribution characteristics and factors associated with HIV among men who have sex with men(MSM) in Shenzhen. Methods HIV surveillance data from 2005 to 2011 among MSM in Shenzhen were collected and analyzed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Results A total of 5 232 MSM were enrolled and received voluntary counseling and testing. The infection rate of HIV was 6.46% and that of syphilisHIV co-infection among them was 3.56%.The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HIV infection was significantly associated with age, education level, role in homosexual behavior and syphilis infection. The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM aged older than or equal to 40 years was 1.508 times higher than that for those below 40.The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM with college or above education level was 0.703 times higher than that with education of high school or below. The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM being predominantly inserted partners and both inserted and receptive partners was 0.428 and 0.624 times higher than that for those being predominantly receptive partners, respectively. The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM with co-infected syphilis was 4.887 times higher than that for those with negative syphilis. Conclusion The prevalence rate of HIV infection shows a statistically significant increase from 2005 to 2011 and it is urgent to carry out HIV/AIDS control and prevention among MSM.
