Abstract

Objective To understand the prevalence of and factors associated with HIV infection among men who have sex with men(MSM) in Shenzhen from 2009 to 2011.Methods HIV/syphilis surveillance data were collected among MSM and analyzed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 2943 MSM were enrolled and received voluntary counseling and testing. The infection rates of HIV and co-infected syphilis among them were 7.88% and 4.38%,respectively.The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HIV infection among MSM was significant associated with their age, monthly income, role in homosexual behavior, the number of sexual partners during the past 6 months and syphilis co-infection.The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM aged more than 40 years was 1.712 times compared with those less than 40 years. The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM with monthly income more than 5000 Yuan was 0.625 times compared with those less than 3000 Yuan. The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM being predominantly receptive partner was 2.233 times compared with those being predominantly inserted partner. The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM with the number of sexual partners ranged from 2 to 4 and more than 5 during the past 6 months were 1.746 and 2.173 times compared with those less than 1,respectively.The relative risk of HIV infection for MSM co-infected syphilis was 4.942 times compared with those with syphilis negative. Conclusion The factors associated with HIV infection among MSM in Shenzhen varied different and HIV control and prevention should be targeted to MSM.
