Abstract

Information consumption is a effective way to drive economic growth in China's rural areas. At first, this paper describes the information consumption of rural residents in China.Based on the data from 2003-2009 China Statistical Yearbook, using the ELES,it analyses the marginal propensity of consumption, income elasticity of demand and the basic demand of information consumption and every project of rural residents in China from 2002-2008 with SPSS13.0 Statistical Software. The results from this paper are as follows:There is a stable consumption function between per capita annual net income of rural residents and information consumption;Marginal propensity of consumption and income elasticity of demand of transportation and communication are the highest in the information consumption. The basic needs for information of low-income households in rural areas can not be met yet,in need of social relief. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions for stimulation of information consumption such as promoting rural residents income, strengthening the information infrastructure, improving the rural social security system, etc.
