Abstract
Objective To study the efficacy and safety of la- ser subepithelial keratomileusis(LASEK) for extremely high myo- pia. Methods LASEK was performed on 40 eyes of 22 patients with extremely high myopia.Mean preoperative uncorrected visual acuity was 0.02±0.02(range 0.01-0.05)and the mean spheri- cal equivalent was-12.75±2.30 D. With a 6-month follow-up, postoperative syndrome,uncorrected and best-corrected visual acui- ty, manifest refaction,intraocular pressure, corneal healing and com- plications were examined. Results The epithelial healing time was 1 to 4 days. Uncorrected visual acuity of 0.5 or better was achieved in 95% of eyes and of 1.0 or better in 27.5% at 6 months after surgery. The average uncorrected visual acuity was 0.70±0.20 and the mean spherical equivalent was-1.25±1.78 D. 14 eyes had haze,of which 10 eyes with grade 0, 5 and 4 eyes with grade 1.5 patients complained of glare. Conclusions LASEK is an effective and safe refractive surgery for the correction of extremely, high myo- pia.
