Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy and safety of laser subepithelial keratomileusis(LASEK) for low to moderate myopia.Methods LASEK was performed in 200 eyes of 102 patients with low to moderate myopia.Mean preoperative uncorrected visual acuity was 0.17±0.13(range 0.02~0.6) and the mean spherical equivalent was -3.87±1.57D(range -0.75~-6.00D).With a prospective 6-month follow-up period,postoperative syndrome,uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity,manifest refraction,intraocular pressure,corneal healing and complications were examined.Results Uncorrected visual acuity of 0.6 or better was achieved in 100% of eyes and of 1.0 or better achieved in 96% at 6 months after surgery.The average uncorrected visual acuity was 1.08±0.23 and the mean spherical equivalent was -0.35±0.41D.The epithelial healing time was 1 to 5 days.10 eyes had haze,of which 8 eyes with grade 0.5 and 2 eyes with grade 1.One patient complained of glare.Conclusions LASEK is an effective and safe refractive surgery for the correction of low to moderate myopia.
