Abstract

Objective To summarize the experience in treating radial nerve injury. Methods Manual reduction and external fixation were performed in 38 patients with closed humeral fracture and radial nerve injury. After patients were observed for 2 weeks,20 patients were changed over to operation.Emergency operations were performed in 22 patients with open knife-cutting injury.Elective nerve anastomosis was performed in 2 patients with old fracture and radial nerve distortion. Results A total of 62 patients with radial nerve injury were treated. The length of follow-up was 8 months to 12 years.Nerve function recoved after 4 months in 18 patients who received non-operation treatment.44 patients received operation treatment(nerve anastomosis 15;neurolysis 29);in most of these patients nerve function began to recover 4~6 months after operation;nerve function did not recover untill 1 year after opertion in 1 patient with severe epineurial contusion and delayed operation. Conclusion To choose rational trearmemt methods and to improve the operation skill can promote nerve recovery and improve therapeutic results.
