Abstract

There are three modes of interpreting the Marxist new materialism: the textbook pattern of integrating the dialectics with the old materialism that is characterized by autonomous hylicism; the pattern of ontological praxis, which denies the dialectics of nature, encloses the concept of matter in practice and thus becomes logically inconsistent; the mode of practice-based genetivism, which advocates that human history and nature are co-emergent in their internal interactions. The first two modes of understanding are logically inconsistent and thus have limitations in guiding the practice. Only the last one can reveal the essence of the Marxist new materialism, which proves the priority of nature through human practice in a logical manner and regards the historical materialism as the soul of the Marxist new materialism. This interpretation will inevitably develop into the dialectical materialism and achieve the unification between the historical materialism and the dialectical materialism.
