Abstract

Critical discourse analysis is a brand-new approach to discourse and its main goal is to reveal ideologies and power relations embedded in discourse.This paper,based on the introduction of ideological nature of language,makes theoretical explorations in 1) the relationship between critical discourse analysis and critical language awareness,2) the nature and process of critical reading.Then,it points out that critical reading is an effective approach to cultivating critical language awareness.Lastly,an analysis is given to an advertisement to illustrate how to make critical reading.
