Combined chemotherapy of continuous infusion of low-dose of 5-fluorouracil and low-dose of cisplatin in advancid or recurrent gastrointestinal carcinoma.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of the continuous central venous infusion(c.c.v.i)of low-dose of 5-fluorouracil with low-dose of cisplatin(DDP).Methods Twenty-four patients with advanced or recurrent gastrointestinal carcinoma(14 in stomach,4 in esophagus,and 6 in colon)were observed in this study.5-Fu was given with a dosage of 200mg m -2 d -1 .c.c.v.i.for 3～4 weeks,and DDP with a dosage of 6mg.m -2 d -1 infused in one hour,five times a week,and lasted for 3～4 weeks.Two treating courses were carried out with a month interval.Results The overall response rate was 64.71(22/34).The response rates of gastric,esophageal,colonic cancers and cancer of pancreas were 62.50%(10/16),100.00%(8/8),33.33%(2/6)and 50.00%(2/4)respectively.The mean duiation of response was 4.8 months (range 2-9months).No severe side effects occurred in any of the cases.Conclusion Combined chemotherapy of daily low-does of 5-Fu with DDP is an effective method in the treatment of advanced or recurrent gastrointestinal carcinoma.
