Word meaning construction in English business news:a conceptual metaphor perspective

Abstract

There are a large number of metaphorical words and phrases in the English business news whose meaning constructions are based on the cognitive mechanism of conceptual metaphor.This paper makes an analysis of the meaning construction of these words and phrases from the perspective of spatial metaphor,ontological metaphor and structural metaphor so as to help readers better understand the English business news discourse,grasp the current international economical situation and reduce the cross-cultural misunderstandings.
