Social Protection for Migrant Workers:Labor Policy Perspective

This article examines the social protection for migrant workers from the perspective of labor policy.It argues that at the time when ruralurban migration brought about the new social stratum of migrant workers,the government policy response to it was inappropriate as the state just regarded them as transients.As a policy response left migrant workers in a plight.As the number of migrant workers increases and their irreplaceable role in Chinese industrialization,the government began to readjust its policy towards migrant workers. Currently,migrant workers have been treated the mainstream of Chinese industrial working class and some new policies have been implemented to protect their legitimate rights and interests as laborers.However,migrant workers have not granted the full status of laborer in accordance with labor law.
