Abstract
Objective To explore the roles of apoptosis and bcl-2 protein expression in the oncogenesis and development of gastric carcinoma. Methods The apoptotic index(AI) and the expression of bcl-2 protein were tested by terminal deoxynucleotidy1 transferase(TdT)-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labelling(TUNEL) and immunohistochemistry in 58 gastric carcinoma and corresponding adjacent tissues. Results There was a significant difference in AI and the expression of bcl-2 protein between carcinoma and the corresponding adjacent tissues (t=13.400,P0.01;χ 2=4.321,P0.05). The apoptotic cells was significantly fewer in bcl-2-postive tumors than in bcl-2-negative ones (t=2.381,P0.05). Conclusion The abnormal expression of bcl-2 is involved in the apoptosis and correlates with oncogenesis of gastric carcinomas.
