Effects of NaCl and Mannitol Stress on the Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Raphanus sativus L.var.raphanistroides Makino

Abstract

The seeds of Raphanus sativus L.van raphanistroides Makmo were cultured on MS medium containing different concentrations of NaCl and mannitol.After measuring the physiological and biochemical characters such as germination potential,germination rate,relative germination rate,chlorophyll content and POD activity,it was found that the Raphanus sativus L.var.raphanistroides Makino germination rate,plant height,root length,chlorophyll content and POD activity gradually decreased with the increasing of NaCl concentration.But with the increasing of mannitol concentration,the seeds showed longer root length,higher chlorophyll content and POD activity at lower mannitol concentration,but when the concentration of mannitol increased further,theses physiological and biochemical characters declined again.It seemed that the Raphanus sativus L.van raphanistroides Makino was more tolerant to drought stress than other species of cruciferae.
