Abstract
Objective To study the cardiovascular risk factors among adolescents(aged 16-18) with normal fasting plasma glucose, and to provide evidence for the early prevention against metabolism syndrome. Methods Measurements included height, weight, blood pressure and fasting plasma glucose(FPG),triglyceride(TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) were conducted among 2 048 adolescents aged 16-18 with normal fasting plasma glucose. The sample was divided into three groups with graded FPG levels at 0.56 mmolL interval,FPG4.4 mmolL(group A),4.4-5.0 mmolL(group B) and 5.0-5.6 mmolL(group C).Results When compared with group A and B,group C had significantly high levels of SBP and DBP(P0.05).The positive rate of overweight, obesity and high SBP and DBP in group C were higher than in group A and B(P0.05).The positive rate of the clustering of cardiovascular risk factors was increasing with graded FPG levels. The Logistic regression results showed the clustering of cardiovascular risk factors among group C was 2.140 times compared with group A(95%CI:1.309-3.497,P=0.002).Conclusion The clustering of cardiovascular risk factors is found at FPG 5.0-5.6 mmolL in adolescents aged 16-18 years. Thus, early inspection of cardiovascular risk factors should be taken and effective efforts should be planned among this population.
