Abstract
The paper focuses on the writing tendencies of Fang Fang's novels. Through correlated comparison with writers in Hubei province, it summarises the characteristics of Fang Fang's writing tendencies as an intellectual as follows: the restoration of one's identity versus adherence to his values, the discovery of man in the street versus the resistance to worldliness, rational knowledge versus void, the mission of writing versus the elusion from vogue.The paper proposes that the above-stated seemingly paradoxical but actually consistent writing tendencies represent Fang Fang's identity characteristics as an intellectual writer and the spirit of his novels.
