On the Fundamental Characteristics of the Chinese Aesthetic Spirit

The Chinese aesthetic spirit is an important theoretical proposition put forward by President XI Jinping in his speech at the Forum on Literature and Art,which has a profound significance to contemporary China's esthetics construction and prosperity and development of literature and art.The spiritual connotation of the Chinese aesthetic spirit has not yet been clearly defined,while the rich theoretical values and profound historical accretion is worth interpreting and elucidating with the development history of Chinese aesthetics. The paper tries to describe the basic characteristics of the Chinese aesthetic spirit from four aspects. Firstly,based on the fundamental concept of Chinese philosophical notion of integration of Man and Nature,the Chinese aesthetic idea involves the universal perceptual creative sense and the sense of universe life; secondly,the high unification of the true,the good and the beautiful is the core content of Chinese aesthetics; thirdly,the rational and emotional dynamic harmony is the essence of Chinese aesthetics; fourthly,the image beyond the imitation of reality and seeking for artistic conception are the artistic symptoms of the Chinese aesthetic spirit. We understand the basic characteristics of the Chinese aesthetic spirit from the historical origins of the development of Chinese aesthetics.
