As life science enters a new era,post genome era,proteomics has been the hot topic of research.This review not only outlines basic concepts,research scopes and profound magnificence of proteomics,but also introduces the basic principle of mass spectrometry technology and its specific application in proteomic research which includes the identification and quantification of peptides and proteins,characterization of post-translational modification and protein linkage mapping.In a word,mass spectrometry has already played a vital role in proteomics study and with its continuous advances it is bound to play a more and more important part in proteomics study.
