Study on Contribution of Construction Land Expansion to Economic Growth and Its Regional Difference

The purpose of this paper is to estimate the contribution of construction land expansion to economic growth in different regions in recent years based on data of different provinces from 1997-2007 in order to offer a reference for making proper land policies for China.Methods of technical efficiency analysis,comparative analysis and econometrics analysis were employed.The results indicate that(:1)the input-output elasticity of fixed capital,labor were construction land were 0.745,0.274 and 0.083 respectively during 1999-2007(;2)the input-output elasticity of construction land were 0.376,0.068 and 0.066 in three types of regions with different economic development stages,which are primary-good-processing stage,deeper industrializing stage and completely developed stage,respectively(;3)regional technical efficiency and macro land control have resulted in a significantly negative impacts on construction land expansion.It is concluded that:(1)the contribution of construction land expansion to economic growth has gradually attenuated with the economic development process from primary stage to advanced stage(;2)areas at different development stages should use differentiated strategies of land administration and criterion for officials’performance assessment.
