Abstract

Objective: To study the somatotype character of Han nationality in Inner Mongolia. Methods:Han nationality in Inner Mongolia aged 20 to 60 were measured by Heath-Carter somatotyping method. Results: Findings indicated that the mean somatotype of male was 3.6-4.8-2.1, being in the endo-mesomorphy category, and that of female was 5.6-4.3-1.6, being in the meso-endomorphy category. Before 30 years old, the mean somatotype of male mainly belonged to balanced mesomorphy category, afterwards that of male turned into endo-mesomorphy, and changed slightly with growth. In female, endomorphic and mesomorphic components increased and ectomorphic component decreased with age, somatotype became more and more endomorphic. Conclusion:There is significant sexual difference between males and females in somatotype. Comparing Han with other 5 minorities, difference is only found between Han and Hui people.
