Abstract

P-nitrobenzoic acid was synthesized via oxidation of p-nitrobenzaldehyde,using hydrogen peroxide as oxidant and methanol as solvent over potassium hydroxide. The effects of potassium hydroxide concentration, the reaction temperature and the molar rate to the products conversion were investigated. The results show that the yield of p-nitrobenzoic acid was up to 89% under the optimum conditions: the concentration of potassium hydroxide is 30%,the reaction temperature is 30℃ and the reaction molar rate is n(benzaldehyde)∶n(30% hydrogen peroxide)=1∶4.In the end,the product p-nitrobenzoic acid is determined by melting point and IR spectra.
