Abstract

The wettability of Al on B4C substrate was studied by using the sessile-drop method, and the interfacial characteristics of B4C/(Al-Ti)were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive analysis of X-rays and X-ray diffraction.Based on the experiments, the effects of temperature and Ti on the wettability of Al on B4C substrate were discussed. The results show that the contact angle(θ) reduces continuously with the increase of temperature and decreases definitely with the addition of Ti.Ti could effectively improve the wettability, and compared with pure Al,the contact angle of B4C/(Al-Ti) at 1 200 ℃ and 1 300 ℃ could be decreased to near 0°.There is a reaction layer in the interface of Al and B4C,and the main products are AlB12C2,TiB2 and TiC and the wettability of the system could be promoted by the reaction of Ti and B4C.
