The Inspiration of the Debate between Mencius and Gaozi——Thinking about the Morai and system of "Internal Saint & Externai King"

Should elders deserve respect or should we have respect for them from deep down inside ourselves? The questions are put in the debate between Gao zi and Mencius in the book Mencius.The first question put by Gao zi implicitly stated the system problem.He based the social order and moral safeguard on customs.Customs are an unwritten legal regime.This thought further developed in Xunzi and Xunzi formed his unique thought school——confuciamism,benevolence,respect for teachers,legal regime.Mencius put the second question and he based the maintain of social order on full individual moral development.He formed the Confucianist political pattern ——Internal Saint External King.In modern times,the ideal Internal Saint External King can come true only by the combination of the theories of Mencius and Gaozi.
