Abstract

Objective To clarify the deletion of MTCYB gene in male infertility. Methods MTCYB gene in spermatozoa was studied by means of PCR in 50 infertile males with poor sperm motility and in 50 infertile males with normal sperm motility.30 fertile males served as controls. Results MTCYB deletion in spermatozoa was observed in 16 of the 100 infertile males,9 being in the infertile males with poor sperm motility and 7 in the normoal motility group( P 0 05).No such deletion was observed in all the 30 fertile males( P 0 01). Conclusions Deletion of MTCYB gene in spermatozoa might play a role in male infertility.
