Abstract
To optimize the processing parameters for plywood panels made with low-toxicity urea-formaldehyde resin,a metal-acid was selected as a modifier agent to mix with the UF resin. An orthogonal experiment was designed to investigate the effect of the metal-acid,moisture content of veneer, and curing agent on the bonding strength. The most dominant factor that had influences on the bonding strength for low-toxicity UF resin was identified. It was observed that when the ratio of urea to formaldehyde was 1.03∶1,the formaldehyde emission of the plywood panel was lower than 0.5 mg/L.
