Abstract

By adopting the matured forecasting model,we conduct a returning calculation on the flood process in middle-late July in upper Yangtze River watershed, and analyze the effects of flood retention and peak reduction of Three Gorges Reservoir. The result shows that Three Gorges Reservoir operation reduced the water level of the main stream in every station on mid-lower reaches of Yangtze River effectively during the flood process. The water level dropped in Yichang-Shashi reach,Chenglingji-Hankou reach,Jiujiang-Datong reach respectively, and the water level of Shashi was below the warning level. As a result, the flood control pressure of Jingjiang reach and the main stream in mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River was mitigated, and the duration for exceeding the warning level at Jianli-Hankou reach was reduced.
