Abstract

Current dynamics and sediment conditions are always one of the crucial problems in harbor layout. According to the analysis on the current velocity, sediment content in past surveys and the results of numerical modeling for the general layout of Yangshan harbor, it is suggested that the single-channel option should be optimized in the plan, not only simplifing the complicated current structure, and also keeping the current dynamic condition and water depth in the deep trough when a suitable width of the west gate are selected. 3.5 km for the width of the west gate are adoptable. Further more, the study gives a simple estimation for the water depth after the single-channel option is built according to the river bed equilibrium formula.
