Abstract
The wordJiaoin the novel Qiludeng can be explained as the meaning ofcause,permit and make,passive anddisposal.The meaning ofcause originated from the meaning ofcalland ask,the meaning ofpermit originated from the meaning ofcause,the meaning ofpassive originated from that ofpermit and the meaning ofdisposal was from that ofcause.The meaning ofpermit andpassive of the word Jiao and the meaning ofcause anddisposal ofjiao are still in use in most of Henan dialect areas.
