Abstract

Despite many different ways of writing in Oracle-bone Inscriptions and Jinwen(characters of the Jin Dynasty),寧 (宁) always has the same meaning of peace. In Xiaozhuan scripts,寧 (宁) got its font from 丂 (kǎo)but not丁 (dīng),and its sound from寍 (ning).Extended from the original meaning of peace as a noun, this character has also many other part-of-speeches,such as a verb(to greet and to attend the funeral),an adverb(rather than;how;therefore),a conjunction and an auxiliary word.
