Studies on Absolute Urban Poverty

With the constant increase in layoffs, urban poverty is becoming more popular than ever. Of the numerous studies of poverty, a greater focus is given to relative poverty at the expense of absolute urban poverty. The author concludes, after his survey of Jianye District, Nanjing, that despite the overall social development a considerable number of people live in absolute poverty and cannot make ends meet while the life of the majority of residents has improved to a large extent. These people can be identified from the line of absolute poverty and actual living conditions. Those absolute poverty victims constitute a special weak group, and the problem must be resolved with a comprehensive approach.
