Romances and Tales in “Folklore”——A Codiscussion on the Issue of Narration in Literary History Writing

There is a narrative web in literary writing, including two hierarchies: reproduction and expression, which operate simultaneously and affect each other in practical writing. In the past, restricted by the partial persuit of objectivity, studies on writing of literary history neglected the literary and rhetorical aspects of expression. Through an analysis of “The Course of the History of Contemporary Chinese Literature” compiled by Chen Sihe, the author realizes the necessity of literary and rhetorical expression in literary history writing and its form of existence. It is just the existence of expression that makes it possible to make analyses of ideology in literary history writing.
