A Consideration of the Writing of a History of Classical Chinese Literature

Abstract

Under the principles of subjectivity, relativity and aestheticity, the narration of literary history pursues a harmony of externality and objectivity of historical facts and internality and subjectivity of historical understanding and an expression of literary rhetorics and literary ideology since what literary history describes are literary works. Therefore, the writing of Chinese literary history should base narration fundamentally on the shift of literary aesthetic tendency and meanwhile adopt a historical approach to dating political rise and dall and mutual replacement of different dynasties. In other words, arrangements of writing about the aesthetic interpretations of literary works should follow a historical evolution chronologically and shifts of literary writing styles spatially.
