Expression of VEGF-C and nm23-H1 in human colorectal cancer and its relation to tumor invasion and metastasis

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of VEGF-C and nm23-H1 gene protein in human colorectal cancer and its relationship with the invasion and lymph node metastasis.Methods S-P immunohistochemical method was used to determine the expression of VEGF-C and nm23-H1 gene protein in 121 human colorectal cancer cases after surgical treatment.Results The expression rate of VEGF-C and nm23-H1 in 121 cases were 62% and 48% respectively.A significant correlation was found between high VEGF-C expression and the invasion and the lymph node metastasis of colorectal cancer(P0.05).A significant correlation was found between low-expression of nm23-H1 gene protein and differentiation of the tumor and the lymph node metastasis of colorectal cancer(P0.05).In addition,there was a significant correlation between VEGF-C and nm23-H1(P0.05).Conclusion VEGF-C and nm23-H1 may contribute significantly to colorectal cancer invasion and metastasis.The expression of both VEGF-C and nm23-H1 simultaneous determined may serve as the marker of lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer and evaluation of prognosis of colorectal cancer patients.
