Structure and diversity and protective strategies of bird community in Nansha wetland, Guangzhou

The bird community in Nansha wetland, Guangzhou, was studied from October 2002 to March 2003 with the systematic sampling and line transects. The results show that there are 95 species, belonging to 15 orders, 34 families and 68 genus. They in-clude 11 species of national second-class protected birds and 16 species of provincial protected birds. 44 species belong to Oriental Realm, 4l of Palaeartic Realm and 10 of widespread species. The diversity index of bird community was higher in sea coast wetland (3.425 0).There are substantial wetland bird resources in Nansha district. On the basis of investigation of the wetland bird resources, the importance and rarity of birds in the wetland were studied. Therefore, the relationship between utilization and conservation of wetland birds should be properly settled to further the sustainable development of environment. In the end, the protected counter-measures for the wetland bird conservation were put forward.
