Abstract

Objective TO study the changes of serum leptin levels of chronic hepatitis B and liver cirrhosis their and their the clinical significance. Methods Serum leptin levels were detected by radioimmunoassay(RIA) in 68 patients with chronic hepatitis B,41 patients with liver cirrhosis and 45 normal persons, and their results were compared. Results Compared with normal persons, serum leptin levels were significantly higher in patients with chronic hepatitis B and liver cirrhosis(P0.01);Serum leptin levels in the patients with liver cirrhosis are higher than those in the chronic hepatitis B(P0.01); Moreover, the levels of serum leptin were much higher in female than those in male subjects in normal persons and chronic hepatitis B(P0.01),there is no relation in liver cirrhosis(P0.05).Conclusions Serum leptin levels in the patients with chronic hepatitis B or liver cirrhosis are higher than those in the normal persons regardless their liver function impairment degree, which is possibly related with state of chronic disease of liver.
