Abstract

Using the frozen semen straws of South Devon and the Germany beef cattle to minate F_1 cows of Simmental and local yellow cattle, the cows and calves were fed under the same management condition, main growth indicators such as body size and body weight were measured during the experiment. The result showed that the body size and body weight of the calves at birth,3 month and 6 month of the south Devon × Simmental × local yellow cattle were significantly higher(P 0.05) than that of Germany beef cattle × Simmental × local yellow cattle. In conclusion, the South Devon beef can be used as the excellent paternal breed to improve the meat production in three-way crossbreeding practice, and increase the productivity of local yellow cattle in the similar ecology environment.
