Abstract

Objective To investigate the role of rosiglitazone(RGZ) on pulmonary fibrosis in diabetic rats. Methods The experimental diabetic rats were yielded by injecting streptozotocin and feeding with high fat and high glucose food. All rats were randomly assigned to control,DM and RGZ group. The collagen accumulation of lung was examined by masson trichrome staining. The protein expressions of MMP-2,MMP-9 in lung were examined by immunohistochemistry. Results The amount of collagen fiber increased obviously in lung tissue in diabetic rats, and decreased in RGZ treated rats. The level of MMP-2,9 in lung tissue was higher in diabetic rats than in control group.RGZ decreased the level of MMP-2,9 in lung tissue. Conclusions Pulmonary fibrosis is present in diabetic rats. The level of MMP-2,MMP-9 in lung tissue of dibtetic rats might be related to lung tissue pathological changes.RGZ may alleviate pulmonary fibrosis by down-regulating the level of MMP-2,MMP-9.
