Abstract

Aim: To study the effect of rosiglitazone(RGZ) on expression of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) in renal tissue of diabetic nephropathy rats. Methods: Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into RGZ-treatment group, model group and normal group. Hyperglycemia was induced with streptozotocin in rats of RGZ-treatment group and model group. The glomerular extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition was measured. Nephric pathology changes were observed using HE and PAS staining, respectively. The method of immunohistochemisty was used to evaluate the expression of CTGF in renal tissue. Results:The glomerular ECM deposition in RGZ-treatment group was significantly lower than that of the model group (P0.01). Nephric pathology study showed that RGZ can improve the pathological states of the renal tissue of diabetic nephropathy rats. The expression of CTGF in RGZ group was markedly reduced compared with the model group (P0.01). Conclusion: RGZ could ameliorate the pathology changes in nephropathy of the diabetic rats and delay the occurrence of renal fibrosis of the diabetic rats, which may be associated with inhibiting the expression of CTGF in the kidney.
