Abstract

Osteoporosis a grave problem in society.Various bone resorption inhibitors and bone formation stimulators have shown to decrease the risk of osteoporostic fractures. In vitro studies have suggested that strontium ranelate(SR) enhances osteoblasts activity and inhibits osteoclasts activity.Animal studies indicated that SR Stimulates bone formation and inhibits bone resorption,in that way it prevents bone loss without disturbing bone mineralization pro- cess.Clinical research indicated that SR decreases the risk of both vertebral and nonvertebral fractures in postmenopausal women.SR is well tolerated in medication and is a new treatment for osteoporosis.
