Abstract
Unlike other anti-osteoporotic drugs, strontium ranelate(SR) is a novel anti-osteoporotic drug, which has unique dual effects on bone metabolism, including inhibiting bone resorption and promoting bone formation.SR can alter the bone microstructure, and increase the bone mineral density and bone strength. Thus,SR can reduce the risk of fractures and improve the life quality of the patients.Clinical researches reveal that SR can reduce the risk of vertebral and non-vertebral fractures in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis. The effect of SR can maintain for a long time. The safety and tolerance of SR are good.
